A lot of you have asked about hair loss and whether or not vitamins and supplements can make your hair grow faster. So, we are addressing that topic. If you want to know this information, keep on reading.

Do you ever go on Instagram and see those lame ads of people eating gummy bears, telling you that it’s going to make your hair grow faster? That’s a marketing ploy by companies, packaging a bunch of widely available vitamins at a much higher price, telling you that it is some magic pill to make your hair grow faster. If you google vitamins or hair loss vitamins, the first thing that pops up on YouTube or Google itself is that hair loss vitamins such as biotin, niacin, vitamin C, and minerals. All these things are essential for hair growth. But when you start looking at some of these vitamin companies, who are manufacturing these supplements, a lot of them contain ingredients that aren’t very revolutionary. Things like silicon, lysine are priced $40 for hair, skin, and nails. That’s ridiculous. This is just pre-packaging a lot of essential vitamins that are available. Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12 – all of that’s available in a regular multivitamin. Think about it.

What Causes Hair Loss?

So in today’s article, we’re going to address some major questions about hair loss. The first being what causes hair loss? Big disclaimer: you lose naturally 50-100 hairs every day. And if you’re not washing your hair every day and you put a comb through your hair – that builds up. So, some of you might be freaking out, thinking you’re going bald when in reality you’re losing hair naturally like most people. Keep that in mind before you start digging into this information. You’re going to experience some breakage; you’re going to experience some tugging and pulling. That’s normal. This is acceptable for everyday usage. It’s when you’re pulling out massive amounts of strands and a lot of hair – that’s when you got an issue.

Now, there are two traditional ways of thinking about hair loss. One is that hair loss covered by genetics and hormones aka it is predisposed into your DNA and genetic makeup. The second way of thinking is that it there are some behavioral or environmental triggers. So, are you over processing your hair, bleaching it, perming it, putting too much heat on your hair – all of that can cause breakage, damage, and affect your hair follicles. Unless you are super vitamin deficient aka you are experiencing an immunocompromised immune system, you’re suffering from a chronic disease or illness, or something that is degenerative to your body, taking vitamins and protein isn’t going to make that much of a difference.

Before anyone starts jumping and attacking, I do want to clarify: it’s not like the vitamins themselves are going to make your hair grow faster. Traditionally they’ve been linked to hair growth even though there hasn’t been any real scientific proof. What vitamins do is they help you get a lot of the nutrients and vitamins that you’re missing from your food sources to make you a healthier person. Being healthier, active, and better balanced in your diet will allow yourself to have the environment to grow better hair.
